Mark Ellison, O.D., earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign where he was a member of Phi Eta Sigma. From there, he graduated cum laude with his Doctorate in Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago.In 1980 he returned to the area where he grew up and established his practice in Bethalto, Illinois. With more than 35 years of experience, he practices full-scope optometry while ensuring that the equipment used in his practice is state-of-the-art. With regard to optometry, he finds most interesting the effects of nutrition on eyes and vision. Additionally, he enjoys working with “hard to fit” contact lenses — specifically, those dealing with bifocals, astigmatism, and rigid lenses. Dr. Ellison is proud to be involved in the local community. He is the President of the Fosterburg Fire Protection District and is a general member of the Wood River Lions Club. He has been a member of the American Optometric Association since 1978. In the past, he has been involved in the Boy Scouts of America, the Bethalto Boys and Girls Club, and the Bethalto Rotary. He also had the pleasure of traveling to Jupiter, Florida with the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Club to act as their optometrist in 2005 – 2007. In his free time, Dr. Ellison enjoys spending time with his wife and their dogs. They have two adult children, two children-in-law and one grandchild.
